Massage therapy benefits the body in many ways. By manipulating the soft tissues of the body, it can reduce pain, stiffness, and muscle spasm. Massage can also increase blood circulation throughout the body due to the pressure applied during the massage. Squeezing and pulling techniques can help flush out lactic acid from the muscles and improve the circulation of lymph fluids and metabolic waste away from the muscles and internal organs. This can result in lower blood pressure and improved body function. Additional to physical benefits, massage therapy provides psychological benefits and emotional balance. Massage can lower feelings of stress and anxiety. It has been proven that massage can lower cortisol levels (a hormone produced in response to stress); when cortisol levels are lowered, serotonin (an anti-pain mechanism) increases, boosting one's  ability to reduce pain and anxiety and improve overall mood. The nurturing touch of massage can gives  a sense of safety and comfort, supporting overall relaxation. Massage boosts awareness of the mind-body connection and increases  feelings of confidence and self-love. Read about Alexandria Russo LMT.
